EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR [Part-Time]

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Foundation for Saline Area Schools (FSAS) is seeking a relationship-driven, organized, and mission-focused leader to serve as our next Executive Director. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys community engagement, fundraising, communications, and translating a mission into clear plans and results – while partnering closely with a supportive Board of Trustees and school leadership.

Founded in 1987, FSAS funds innovative educational programs, activities, and events that supplement core school budgets – helping students across Saline Area Schools thrive. We raise, steward, and distribute funds to bring meaningful opportunities to classrooms and students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

Required Experience

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, partnerships, sales, or donor development
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong follow-through 
  • Comfort working collaboratively with a board and community stakeholders

Preferred Experience

  • Nonprofit leadership experience and budgeting/strategic planning exposure
  • Familiarity with Google Drive, WordPress, Hootsuite, CRM databases (such as DonorPerfect or Givebutter) 
  • Grant funding and grant writing experience 
  • Ideal candidate will have strong connections with local businesses

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Partner with the Board of Trustees to drive strategic priorities and long-term sustainability 
  • Engage and energize volunteers, trustees, event committees, school staff, alumni, and community partners
  • Provide clear updates and reporting to the Board and key stakeholders
  • Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan, including donor pipeline strategy and revenue goals; track progress and adjust tactics 
  • Expand and maintain revenue-generating activities and sponsorships
  • Build new partnerships while strengthening relationships with existing donors, alumni, and community leaders 
  • Ensure excellent donor stewardship and timely communication of program impact
  • Strengthen the FSAS brand across website, email, events, and publications
  • Share timely stories and results that connect donors to student impact
  • Ensure timely gift processing, acknowledgements/receipts, pledge tracking, sponsorship fulfillment, and accurate donor records/CRM hygiene
  • Oversee 501(c)(3) compliance and required tax/legal reporting 
  • Uphold bylaws, governance procedures, and fiduciary responsibility for donations and assets

In the first 6–12 months, you will: 

  • Lead and deliver our key fundraising initiatives (including Fall Luncheon and Winter Fundraiser) 
  • Strengthen, renew, and onboard existing and new donor and sponsor relationships through consistent stewardship and communication 
  • Improve the clarity and consistency of FSAS communications across website, email, and community channels 
  • Ensure operational excellence: reporting, compliance, and sound financial stewardship ? Build momentum and alignment between the Board, school leadership, student representatives, volunteers, and the broader community

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Demonstrate exemplary attendance and punctuality.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS

Work in standard office and school building environments requiring mobility, visual and auditory acuity, communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, adaptability, technology proficiency, physical stamina and environmental awareness.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supported by part-time administrative support and a volunteer/event committee structure

WORK SCHEDULE

Averages approximately 25 hours/week, flexible schedule; some evenings/weekends during events

FLSA STATUS

Exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This position is hired via a third-party (Edustaff)
  • This position is not eligible for SAS benefits
  • Part-time, flexible schedule with some evening/weekend commitments during event seasons 
  • FSAS office located at Liberty School (Ann Arbor–Saline Road)

SALARY

$42,000–$47,000 annually, commensurate with experience
