Grant Highlight: Fourth Grade Rube Goldberg Expo

Grant Highlight: Fourth Grade Rube Goldberg Expo

By: Kaitlyn Gasparovich, Teacher, Heritage

This year marked the inaugural 4th grade Rube Goldberg Expo at Heritage, an exciting culmination of our Energy and Collisions Unit. Throughout the unit, 4th grade students explored the concepts of energy storage, movement, and how collisions transfer energy between objects. Applying their knowledge, students designed and built their own Rube Goldberg machines, going through various iterations and modifications to engineer unique designs with multiple energy transfers. It was a joy to watch them collaborate, problem-solve, and unleash their creativity.

A special thanks to the Foundation for Saline Area Schools for awarding us the grant that funded Hot Wheels kits for each of our twelve 4th grade classes. These kits were crucial to the success of our Rube Goldberg machines and will continue to be a valuable resource for future classes. We look forward to seeing this event grow and become a landmark experience for Saline 4th graders in the coming years.
